Schools across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) recorded an impressive turnout of students, pupils, and teachers as the new academic session resumed. As of Thursday, September 11, 2025, the resumption percentage has risen to 90%, a clear indication that the 2025/2026 session has commenced in full swing.

During an inspection tour by the top management officials of the FCT Education Secretariat, who went around several FCT schools, cutting across public and private schools. it was discovered that the students and teachers were out in full swing with over 60% turnout on the first day of resumption.

At Government Science Technical College, GSTC, Area 3, Abuja, the school Principal, Mr. James Musa Kuta confirmed that about 60 % of the school population was on the ground. In his words, “with a student population of 1,060, the school had 631 students resume back yesterday, Sunday, representing a commendable 60% turnout rate. As you can see, lessons have already commenced today, and we’re positive that within the course of the week, the less than 400 students who are yet to resume will join us.

He appreciated the FCT Minster, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, for the recent renovation and expressed that the school was ready to take up the new session in full glare.

“We appreciate the Minister for the recent renovation. It is a pointer that we should all give our best and do better, and this has greatly inspired and encouraged our students and teachers to give in their best, leaving no stone unturned.”

At Pace Setters Academy, a private secondary school in Wuye, students had equally resumed and lessons had commenced as well. The Chairman of the school, Barrister Kenneth Imansuangbon, thanked the FCT Minster for creating an enabling environment for private schools to thrive, while also encouraging parents not to relent in their efforts in supporting their wards. He said, “FCT Schools are the best. We appreciate the efforts of the FCT Administration, we appreciate the Permanent Secretary for visiting the school and inspiring our students.

“With the current economic hardship, we know it’s not easy for parents generally, but we want to encourage them not to relent in their efforts in trying to give their children the best.”

Speaking after the inspection exercise, the Mandate Secretary for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, commended the schools’ serene environments and impressive turnouts.

Dr. Hayyo who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Joy Chinwe Okeke, said all FCT had fully resumed. In her words, “All FCT schools, both private and public, resumed today and I’m very impressed with the turnout. Even the class prefect of one of the schools that we visited confirmed that they are grateful to the minister for renovating their school, because now they are in a very good and conducive environment for learning.”

The secretary also appealed to parents whose wards have not yet returned to release them to join others in class.
