Determined in its efforts to ensure that Federal Capital Territory (FCT) women and youths are adequately empowered with relevant skills for enhanced living, the FCT Administration in collaboration with a Non-Goverment Organisation, Yeye Adesola’s World, recently hosted the 2025 Crochet Summit.

The three-day event held in Abuja from August 5th to 7th, 2025 was aimed at reviving the old skill of crocheting while empowering individuals, especially women and youth.

In his keynote address during the event, the Mandate Secretary, of the FCT Education Secretariat, Dr. Danlami Hayyo represented by the Director, Department of Mass Education, Dr. Favour Edem-Nse highlighted the importance of skills acquisition, stating that crocheting is more than just needlework, but a tool for self-reliance, employment, creativity, and healing.

The Mandate Secretary added that the skill weaves lives together, stitches broken dreams, and patterns new future for individuals, families, and the nation as a whole.

 He, therefore, encouraged participants to leverage crocheting as a means of generating income and creating beautiful, functional items.

Also speaking, the Director of the FCT Department of Quality Assurance, Hajiya Titilayo Alayande, also highlighted the significance of skills development, noting that “Crocheting allows individuals to express themselves through patterns, colors, and designs. It encourages innovation and artistic thinking.”

She called on children and youths to believe in themselves and their talents, stating that “a simple crochet hook, when paired with determination, can become your key to independence, dignity, and success.”

The summit provided a platform for participants to gain valuable skills, build confidence, and unlock new opportunities. By promoting cultural preservation, economic empowerment, and improved mental health, the event will no doubt make valuable contributions to the participants, especially those interested in crocheting and entrepreneurship.
