FCTA To Prioritize Education – Wike

Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), will give priority to educational subsection of the FCT to ensure it continues to play its role in the development of the country.
Accordingly, the sector is very significant in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and will be given the desired impetus to take its rightful place to develop the nation’s capital.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, gave this assurance while speaking at the Opening Ceremony of the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU) 60th Anniversary and 36th Bi-Annual Conference holding at the Baze University, Research and Institution District, Abuja.
The Minister said that the FCT Administration has placed Education in the forefront by creating the enabling environment for both teaching and learning in all FCT Schools.
Wike reiterated the need to continue to give Education the desired attention in all spheres of life.
The Minister, who was represented at the occasion by the FCT Secretary of Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, said the Education Sector in FCT has enjoyed a priority position in the budgetary allocations and the dividends of the investments are evident in the quality of the graduates as well as the various wins recorded by the FCT Schools in both local and international competitions.
He called on the Vice Chancellors and Stakeholders to use the conference as a platform for robust discussions and strategic planning while encouraging them prioritize collaboration among universities, Government Agencies, industry and the community at large .
Wike stated that the theme of the Conference “Celebrating 60 years of Higher Education Leadership in Nigeria” is a testament to their commitment to address the various challenges head on ranging from funding constraints to infrastructure deficiencies as well as from the evolving demands of the global knowledge economy to industrial actions among others.
He said, all these challenges required our collective attention and resolve reminding them to continue to chart a course for the future that is marked by continued progress, innovation and inclusive growth.
The Minister urged them to adapt to the changing needs of our society and economy, ensuring that our graduates are not just job seekers but also job – creators and problem solvers; adding that the Universities must be in the forefront of knowledge creation, dissemination and application, especially in this era of rapid technological advancement and global interconnectivity.
He Congratulated the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities ( CVCNU) for playing a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of higher education in Nigeria and its Contributions to the Society.
His words: “The Higher Education institutions have been instrumental in nurturing generations of thinkers, innovators and leaders, who have contributed to the development of the Society as we have witnessed significant advancements and milestones in our academic and research endeavours.”
