Permanent Secretary Commends FCT Public Schools

Public Schools in the Federal Capital Territory have been commended for the Students outstanding performance and various innovations, especially in Entrepreneurship projects competitions in and outside the FCT.

Permanent Secretary, FCT, Adesola Olusade, made this commendation while receiving the officials of the University of Brunel Business School London Uk in his office.

He said, it is heartwarming to share in the success story of the innovative Team of SEB who attended a short course and came back with such fruitful benefits to FCT and Nigeria at large.

Adesola stated that the FCT Public Schools are always in the forefront in various competitions such as JETS, Mathematics and Essays among others but their activities have been under reported informing the visitors that in 2021, the Principal of Government Secondary School Kubwa, a public school received the Best Administrator Award in Nigeria; adding that with all these accomplishments, FCT Public Schools can go higher.

The Permanent Secretary said that the Administration is working hard to change the narratives on the argument that educational institutions do not align with industrial needs but in FCT efforts are being made to align as the students have basic knowledge of some requirements and have been introduced to other skill areas where they have been actively involved.

Adesola assured the visitors of discovering many potentials in FCT Schools as they go out to Schools on physical assessment which shows that the Students can be on their own.

He expressed his delight on the fruitful partnerships that will grow to the benefits of both countries.

According to him, the Government is supporting the Entrepreneurship Education in Nigeria with the National Youth Developmental funds primarily to provide finance for youths and SMEs as a start-up capital depending on the level of financial resources required and provision of convincing business plan that are achievable.

Welcoming the officials earlier in his office, the Secretary for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, while expressing his delight on their visit disclosed that such Entrepreneurship Education is very crucial as it helps to lay a solid foundation for a life long Education and equips the Students with necessary skills and knowledge for self reliance, thereby reducing dependence on Government.

The Secretary stated that the innovative Team of FCT SEB has made the Education sector and FCT Administration proud through this synergy partnerships that will further enhance the skills of the FCT Students and foster economic development as well as creating more opportunities of wealth generation for our Teeming Youths in FCT.

He assured of the total support of the Education Secretariat towards ensuring this Entrepreneurship projects collaboration is successful.

The Director/ Secretary of FCT Secondary Education Board,Dr. Sani Mohamed Ladan at the occasion said, they are glad to be part of this success story as the benefits will yield enormous changing in the Schools; adding that Entrepreneurship Education in FCT has come to stay and with the partnership with the University of Brunel Business School London Uk, they will not relent in their efforts to ensure smooth take off of the Entrepreneurship impact Centre.

The Team, which visited some FCT Schools namely Government Secondary School, Bwari, Government Girls Secondary School, Dutse, Government Science Secondary School, Tungamaje, Junior Secondary School, Government Secondary School, Gwagwalada, Department of Mass Education Women Vocational Centre and Science, Innovation and Technology Department expressed their satisfaction with the assessment of the various students projects promising to give their support to Entrepreneurship Skills in FCT.

The highlight of their visit is signing of Memorandum of Understanding and commissioning of FCT SEB/ Brunel Open Innovation Impact Centre.
