FCT-UBEB Chairman Commissions Renewed Hope Initiative Library

The Acting Executive Chairman, Federal Capital Territory Universal Basic Education Board (FCT-UBE), Dr. Alhassan Sule, has commissioned a modern Library, named ‘Renewed Hope Initiative’ at Junior Secondary School Karu, a suburb of Abuja.

The library, built by the Principal of the school, Mr. Moses Shimachimin, through the special intervention of the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu.

The event, which took place at the school premises, was witnessed by the management team of UBEB, Board as well as other stakeholders in the education industry.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Acting Executive Chairman, FCT-UBEB, Dr. Alhassan Sule, represented, by the Director, Department of Junior Secondary School, Hajiya Rahmatu Nusa, commended the wife of the President for her donation to the School.

The Executive Chairman said the modern Library, fully equipped with books, will greatly assist the students in their academic pursuit.

Sule explained that the library is a huge resource with enormous benefits for the students.

He commended the Principal of the School for his innovative ideas, commitment and leadership skills.

Sule, was also full of praises for partners, such as Near Foundation, New Hope Agency and the School PTA; saying that their efforts towards the establishment of the library is appreciated.

He, therefore, called on other Non- Governmental Organisations (NGO), to continue to support the government in improving the standard of education in the country.

In his address, the Principal of JSS Karu, Mr. Moses Shimachimin said that JSS Karu was established during the disarticulation of Junior Secondary School from Senior Secondary in 2005.

Shimachimin, explained the efforts at ensuring that the school get a befitting library immediately he assume office as the school Principal.

He, however, stated that the challenges of paucity of funds, moved the School to initiate the process of reaching out to good spirited individuals and organisations.

According to him, having a library was a dream come true; noting that, when the School was selected to be among the schools to celebrate the first Anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Administration, with Senator Oluremi Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, marking the 2024 Children’s Day Celebration, he was hopeful.

He Commended the First Lady for the donation of ₦10 million to the school support programme, through the her pet project, ‘Renewed Hope Initiative;’ stressing, “the donation of the First Lady was a huge relief to the establishment of this library in the school.”

The Principal emphasized the importance of effective use of library in a student’s life such as building of linguistics repertoire and critical thinking.

He thanked the First Lady for the laudable gesture, which would add value to the school, the Ag. Executive Chairman, FCT-UBEB, and the entire management for always nudging them to give in their best.
