The Acting Executive Chairman of the FCT Universal Basic Education Board (FCT-UBEB), Lady Florence Wenegieme, has reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to strengthening innovative learning environment in the Federal Capital Territory following a familiarization visit to the Karshi Smart School.

Lady Wenegieme, who was accompanied by members of the Board’s management team, was received by the Junior Secondary School Principal, Mr. Ado Murtala, alongside the Head Teacher and other members of staff.

During the visit, the Acting Chairman toured key facilities across the school campus, gaining first-hand insight into the institution’s operations and its role as a model centre for technology-driven basic education in the FCT.

The inspection covered the school canteen, Content Development Studio, ICT laboratory, student hostels, clinic, teachers’ quarters, and the  dining hall.

Particular attention was given to the Content Development Studio, a central feature of the smart school initiative that supports digital learning, content creation, and innovative teaching practices. Lady Wenegieme commended the forward-looking vision behind the facility and its potential to enhance learning outcomes through technology integration.

The Acting Chairman also visited the student hostels and other support facilities, noting that the infrastructure reflects the commitment of the Universal Basic Education Commission to providing a modern learning environment for students in the FCT.

Speaking during the visit, Mr. Murtala highlighted the school’s partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), which has contributed significantly to the development of the school’s digital learning infrastructure. The collaboration includes the establishment of the Content Development Studio, support for internet connectivity, and the training of teachers as part of the first phase of the Smart School Project implemented across six states in Nigeria.

He also proudly noted that the school distinguished itself in a competition organized among KOICA-supported smart schools last year, securing third place behind institutions in Kano and Bauchi States.

Mr. Murtala further disclosed that preparations are underway for the second phase of the KOICA-supported initiative, which is expected to commence between April and May this year, promising further advancement in digital learning and innovation.

In her remarks, Lady Wenegieme expressed satisfaction with the vision and facilities of the school, describing it as a shining example of the Federal Capital Territory’s commitment to modernizing basic education through technology and strategic partnerships.

She emphasized that the institution holds enormous potential to serve as a centre of excellence for smart learning, capable of inspiring similar initiatives across the territory.

The Acting Chairman assured the school community of the Board’s continued support and reaffirmed the administration’s determination to sustain policies and programmes that promote quality, innovation, and global best practices in basic education.

She also encouraged teachers and administrators to continue fostering collaboration with development partners and community stakeholders in order to further expand the impact of the smart school initiative.

Lady Wenegieme concluded by commending the dedication of the school’s management and staff, urging them to maintain their commitment to excellence as they continue to nurture the next generation of digitally empowered learners in the Federal Capital Territory.
