Rainy Season: FEMD Appeals To Residents To Heed To Early Warning

The FCT Emergency Management Department, FEMD has appealed to residents of the Territory to exercise caution on the roads as the onset of the wet season in the FCT sets in.

Reacting to the early warning issued by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency NiMet, FEMD appealed to motorists not to drive through surface run off water during the rains, as they have strong under currents.

According to the heavy rainfall forecast bulletin issued by NiMET, moderate to heavy rainfall is anticipated today, tomorrow the 16th and on Friday the 17th of May 2024 over parts of the FCT, Niger, Kogi,Nasarawa, Adamawa, Kebbi, Abia, Ebonyi, Imo, Kwara, Bayelsa and Cross River States.

The forecast cautions on prospects of flash floods as a result of the moderate to heavy rainfall.

It said strong winds may accompany the rains, causing likely hazards like slippery road surfaces, reduced visibility, threats to weak structures, trees and mast.

Meanwhile, the Ag. Director General of FEMD, Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim Sabo, has appealed to residents, who reside along the water channels to relocate, clear all blocked drainages, and remove infractions obstructing the free flow of water.

He urged residents to always dial the 112 Emergency Toll Free number in the event of an emergency.
