FCT Health Secretary Tasks Medical Practitioners On Improved Services

Medical practitioners in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been tasked to improve on their service delivery to the residents of the Federal Capital Territory in tune with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Secretary, FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES) Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe gave this task, while receiving members of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) FCTA chapter that paid a visit to her office.
The Secretary said that to effectively improve on services, the medical practitioners have a lot to put in as the nation is desirous of such services.
Fasawe enjoined members of AMLSN to create and increase awareness on services available and where to access them to enable the FCT residents take advantage, because most people within the city are ignorant of services available in FCT facilities.
Her words: “Awareness of available services is a vital step in making such services accessible to the public.”
According to her, everyone has a role to play towards improving the quality of healthcare in tandem with global best practices owing to the fact that as a Secretariat, policies are formulated and passed down to practitioners to implement with every needed and necessary support.
The acting Director-General, FCT Hospital Management Board (HMB), Dr. Olugbenga Bello, who also spoke at the occasion commended the commitment and dedication of the members so far in providing laboratory services to meet global standard which earned one of the FCT facilities (Bwari General Hospital) the first public laboratory to get National accreditation in Nigeria by Medical Laboratory Scientists Council of Nigeria ( MLSCN)
Meanwhile, the Director of Medical and Diagnostic Department (HSES) Dr. Abubakar Ahmadu, said that there are gaps to fill, which will be collectively agreed in order to block leakages that threaten quality and efficiency of services through identifying areas where Public Private Partnership is required to improve and close gaps in Health Services generally.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Association, Comrade Henry Rotimi Oshowo, pledged to sustain the existing collaboration and partnership between the Association and the office of Secretary in achieving overall goal of HSE Secretariat.
Rotimi appealed to the Secretary to look into the issue of creating the Directorate of Medical Laboratory Services, which is imperative in ensuring proper command and control in the Medical Laboratory Services in FCTA in order to strengthen laboratory services in the Territory.
