FCT Health Secretary Tasks Nurses On Continuous Training

Nurses and Midwives in the services of the FCT Administration (FCTA) to always avail themselves the opportunity of upgrading their professions by attending the Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programme (MCPDP).

The FCT Secretay, Health and Human Services Secretariat, Dr. Abubakar Tafida made the call during the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) presentation of 2022 awards of excellence in leadership to members, who distinguished themselves in various areas of endeavors.

The Secretary, who was represented at the event by the Director of Special Duties (DSD) Dr. Matthew Ashikeni and said, “the call has become necessary due to global advancement and changes in the practice of medical health care which has the demand of practitioners to always upgrade their knowledge on the profession.”

Dr. Tafida commended the Nurses for their efforts in ensuring that the FCT Health Care Service remains one of the best in the country.

According to him, “Nigerian Nurses are very good, they are the best, but in Nigeria the FCT Nurses are also the best.”

He congratulated the Awardees and encouraged them to continue putting in their best in the practice.

In his goodwill message, the Director General, FCT Hospital Management Board Dr. Mohammed Kawu, also represented by the Director Nursing Services, Mrs. Grace Eleri encouraged Nurses to always improve on their professional ethics for better services.

He affirmed that the Administration is aware that so many Nurses have left the service but added that the Administration is doing everything possible to ensure that the vacuums created are adequately filled.

Also speaking during the occasion, the Secretary General /Registrar Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Dr. Faruk U. Abubakar said attending the Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programme (MCPDP) is compulsory for Nurses’ renewal of their professional licenses and for their upgrading.
