The Center for School Health Education and Environmental Hygiene (CSHEEH) has conducted an impact assessment of hand washing facilities it donated to Zuriel Premier Academy, a learning center located in Lokogoma of the Federal Capital Territory.

The hand washing facilities were donated by CSHEEH during the 2021 Global hand washing day to encourage hand hygiene practice by pupils and by extension, other family members and improve awareness.

The Executive Director CSHEEH, Dr. Folashade Momoh, while speaking to Abuja Digest, said the visit was to find out how the message from the Global Hand-Washing Day Commemoration 2021 has affected the school community.

Dr. Momoh emphasized that it was important to interview the students and members of the school management to know how it is helping them maintain proper hygiene.

Her words: ‘’Last year, we were here for the 2021 Global Hand Washing Day and it’s been over a year now, and we felt we should come back to do an impact assessment interview to know how the message we have received’’.

While describing the best technique to wash her hands, a year five-diamond pupil, Agbor Isioma Holiness, said the lessons she learnt during the commemoration GHWD 2021 have helped her to wash her hands better because she now has access to more hand washing facilities at her disposal.

In addition, a Junior Secondary School student, Ofodile Pearl, while describing the impact of hand sensitization in 2021, stated that she was ignorant about the appropriate hand washing technique, which involved washing the wrists until CSHEEH visited her school.
She added that the facilities donated by CSHEEH have been very helpful and are maintained by the schools’ caregivers.

While appreciating CSHEEH for providing the facilities, the Director of Zuriel Premier Academy, Tokunbo Adebisi emphasized that the school has become better because students are more conscious of practicing hand hygiene after every activity.

Adebisi added that the sensitization has put their school in a good light with Parents because their wards relayed the lessons they learned to their family members.

Global Hand Washing Day is commemorated on October 15 annually to highlight the importance of regular hand washing and how it is the first step to preventing germs from spreading and causing illnesses.
