Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, has said that the long-awaited integrated bus and taxi terminals in Abuja will commence operations within weeks.
The Minister who disclosed this while speaking to journalists after inspection of projects on Friday, 27 March, 2026, also revealed that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has ratified the management framework for the terminals.
“Luckily for us, the last FEC meeting approved the management structure. It was beyond ministerial jurisdiction, so we escalated it. Now that we have the go-ahead, the team is finalizing processes to begin operations,” he stated.
Wike, who revealed that he recently interacted with the newly approved management team earlier in the day, expressed optimism about the timeline.
“In the next two to three weeks, we shouldn’t be pleading for this anymore. The President and FEC have resolved the bottleneck,” he added, dismissing previous delays as procedural.
“When we talk about Abuja, we’re talking about Nigeria’s face. These terminals aren’t just buildings; they’re systems to restore order and dignity to public transit,” Wike emphasized.
The Minister expressed satisfaction with ongoing road projects in the Territory, confirming that some will be inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu in his third year in office.
Wike highlighted progress on the N1 Road, handled by Arab Contractors, noting that while it won’t be ready for the third-anniversary inauguration, it is expected to be completed before year-end. He also mentioned the Airport-Kuje Road, which has been earmarked for the presidential inauguration.
Wike stressed that quality remains a priority, citing the visible happiness of residents in areas like Mabushi. “The people of the FCT deserve the best because this is what will launch Nigeria. When people come here, Abuja should reflect the standard of the country,” he said.
He commended contractors for meeting deadlines and assured them of prompt payments, adding, “We are doing everything to ensure we don’t hinder their work.”
Wike explained his decision for constant project inspection, saying: “Nobody goes around to see how our projects are going, how the contractors are doing, and the quality expected. We don’t believe in sitting in the office and receiving reports -we want to see with our eyes.”
The Minister, while dismissing political tensions in the PDP, affirmed the party’s stability.
“People who are angry can be pacified, but we won’t allow the house we built to be destroyed,” he stated.
