The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to strengthening legal education infrastructure in Nigeria.
He said this during the official flag-off of the construction of male and female hostels at the Nigerian Law School, Bwari, on Monday, October 20, 2025.
Speaking at the ceremony Barr. Wike described the project as a promise made and fulfilled by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that it demonstrates the President’s sincerity and practical approach to leadership.
“The school is unable to accommodate the number that are being turned out from various universities. Today, we are here to fulfil that promise that Mr. President made. This shows that when you have good leadership, there is nothing difficult in achieving results, and Mr. President has shown leadership.”
The minister thanked Mr. President for his continuous support for Legal Education in Nigeria.
According to him: “Let it be recorded and for the doubting Thomases that just two years in office, Mr. President, through his Attorney General, has visited the Nigerian Law School campus two times.”
The Minister announced that President Tinubu has also approved the construction of a new auditorium for the Law School, following the recent completion of an earlier one. He emphasized that the Renewed Hope Agenda was about results, not rhetoric.
Hs words: “ I was privileged to be with Mr President last night, and I told him about this and he said go back, make sure another auditorium is built”.
He commended the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), for his foresight and genuine interest in advancing the structures that sustain the legal profession, pledging that the 12-month project duration would be strictly adhered to without variation.
While flagging off the construction, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the FCT Minister for their unwavering support to the judicial sector.
“I am elated because you don’t promise what you will not do. Mr. FCT Minister, I want to thank you; we do not take this for granted, in just two years, Mr. President has done a lot for the legal and justice sector. This is truly Renewed Hope in action.”
“Our President today has intervened directly in projects that have lasting impact. We’ve provided utility vehicles, staff quarters, and now hostels for students. With this new development, more law graduates will have the opportunity to be accommodated and trained effectively,” he added.
He also appealed for similar interventions in other campuses of the Nigerian Law School, particularly in Lagos, to address infrastructural gaps.
The Chairman of the Council of Legal Education, Emeka Ngige, who corroborated Fagbemi, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the FCT Minister, hailing him for the fulfilment of a promise made less than a year ago.
He also recalled the minister’s continued assistance to the legal profession, emphasizing that what the Law School needed was more infrastructure development, not misplaced calls for its scrapping, as is done in other countries.
On her part, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the project as a testament to shared commitment to build structures that will serve generations, adding that the hostels would greatly enhance the living and learning conditions of law students.
The Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Professor Isa Chiroma (SAN), appreciating the President, the FCT Minister, and the Attorney General for their support to legal education, noted that the provision of the hostels will go a long way in helping the Nigerian Law School in fulfilling its mandate.
“On behalf of the Council of Legal Education, Nigerian Law School, Management, staff, and students, I respectfully thank His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for approving this project.
