The Coordinator, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Felix Obuah, has called on the Information Officers to be good Ambassadors of the FCT Administration by being professionals in the discharge of their duties.
Obuah gave the charge during a courtesy visit by the Executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Federal Capital Territory Administration (NUJ-FCTA) Chapel, Wednesday, at the AMMC Office, Zone 6, Wuse I District, Abuja.
According to him, Journalism is a noble profession that demands persons with high level of integrity to practice it effectively; emphasising that, if the integrity of the profession must be sustained through coverages and reportages, Information Officers ought to imbibe the tenets of the profession.
He stressed that, media managers should desist from politicizing their office by compromising the actual mode of operation of the profession, but to always strive towards investigating all their reports in-depthly before disseminating them to the public.
His words: “Journalism is a noble profession and it is important that you maintain it by investigating and cross checking facts before you disseminate your reports. Do not politicize your reports.”
Obuah lauded the Excos for the sensitization campaigns carried out recently on numerous issues across the nation’s capital and pledged to support the NUJ-FCTA Chapel in their upcoming activities.
“We are going to key into your activities and support you in some of the aspects we can.” Obuah assured.
Speaking earlier, the Chairperson of NUJ-FCTA Chapel, Ngozi Ufomba, commended the AMMC Coordinator for the significant impact made in the short time in office, which has reflected in the Council’s recent activities.
Ufomba noted that the mediation between the Coordinator and varying groups; and market associations has yielded positive results and also helped to maintain decorum in the city center.
She explained that the training and retraining of Information Officers is paramount in sustaining the integrity of the profession by ensuring the up-to-date of the Journalists, especially the FCTA Information Officers; assuring the Union’s desire to train officers across the Secretariats, Departments and Agencies (SDAs) of the FCTA.
Ufomba, therefore, sought the support of the Coordinator in other upcoming activities of the Union.
