Be Proactive; Permanent Secretary Charges Staff

The staff of the Youth Development Secretariat have been enjoined to be proactive and innovative in the discharge of their duties.

The Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat, Mrs. Nancy Sabanti Nathan, gave this charge during a general meeting withthe staff of the Secretariat in her office, recently.

The Permanent Secretary recalled that it was the former department of Youth that was upgraded to a Secretariat, and therefore, no effort should be spared to achieve a seamless transition and progress.

She said this charge has become necessary for the new Secretariat to take its rightful position to achieve the mandate designed for it.

While expressing happiness over the one on one meeting with the staff, the Permanent Secretary promised to demonstrate exceptional leadership and administrative dexterity to give the newly established Secretariat the direction it needs to sail safely and deliver on its mandates, working in concert with the Mandate Secretary.

Nanthan assured the staff that issues bordering on staff welfare will be on the front burner.

Her words: I will operate an open door policy and encourage staff with innovate ideas that will move the Secretariat forward.

Nathan urged all the staff to embrace hard work and commitment to worka laziness will not be tolerated.

While frowning at dereliction to duties, she said that their loyalty to the government must be 100%.

“Measures will be taken to address some of the concerns raised and attention will be given to matters such as staff training and general capacity building, in addition to welfare,” the Permanent Secretary added.

On his part, Acting Director Youth Department, Mr. Musa Lai, encouraged staff members to be free to interact with the Permanent Secretary whenever the need arises.

He emphasized the need for discipline and commitment to duty.
