Expect the Best; Geidam Assures Farmers
The Mandate Secretary for the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, Lawan Kolo Geidam, has assured farmers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that the FCT Administration will support them to ensure a successful farming season.
Geidam gave this assurance during an engagement with officials of the Secretariat to strategize on the Administration’s annual input support programme to the farming community of the FCT.
The Secretariat in its proactive move, Geidam said will be deploying Agriculture Extension Agents, to sensitize farmers with best practices in land preparation, amongst other agricultural activities.
His words: “Through our Agric Development Project, alongside Extension Agents, we’re not just imparting the wisdom of good agricultural practices. We are also disseminating insights from the latest Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) reports to inform their activities.”
The Secretary expressed the commitment of the FCT Administration, under the leadership of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and the FCT Minister of State Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, to change the narrative and trend of delayed input provision; assuring that
all necessary processes will be expedited to ensure timely support.
“The capacity of the Minister is well known,” Geidam remarked, “and the FCT farmers can expect nothing but the best from the Administration.”
Geidam revealed that the there will be a significant focus on training programmes designed to enhance farmers’ skills in line with the highest global best standards in agriculture.
The goal, he added is to not only increase the quality but also the quantity of their yield, thereby securing a more prosperous season for all.
