The Secretary for Education, FCTA, Dr Danlami Hayyo,  has commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its sustained patnership and commitment to advancing education through impactful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives in the FCT.

Dr. Hayyo, gave the commendation during the official commissioning of a newly renovated Multipurpose Hall at Government Secondary School Wuse Zone 3, as part of activities marking the first anniversary of the Customs CSR programme.

Describing the occasion as more than the unveiling of a physical structure, the Mandate Secretary noted that it represents “a celebration of commitment, partnership, and investment in the future of our children.”

 He emphasized that education remains the bedrock of sustainable development and that contributions to its growth must be recognized and encouraged.

He particularly praised the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for demonstrating a strong passion for education and national development through the initiative.

While reaffirming the commitment of the FCT Administration, Dr. Hayyo stated that the CSR intervention aligns with the Administration’s drive for infrastructural development.

He said, “Under the leadership of Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, the FCT Administration has embarked on the renovation and rehabilitation of schools across the 6 geopolitical zones of the FCT, and fortunately, GSS Wuse Zone 3, is a beneficiary of this programme.”

However, Dr. Hayyo charged students to make optimal use of the facility and urged the school management to ensure proper maintenance for long-term sustainability.

In his remarks, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, said the initiative underscores the Service’s dedication to supporting education and community development. He noted that the upgraded school hall would enhance students’ confidence, creativity, and communication skills.

Reacting to the friendly basketball match that held earlier, Adeniyi commended the students of the school for their victory, scoring 46 points against the NCS team’s 31.

Earlier in the day, the event featured a basketball competition between students of GSS Wuse Zone 3 and NCS staff, donation of basketball jerseys, kits, and balls to the school team, as well as a tree-planting exercise within the school premises to promote environmental sustainability, followed by the official commissioning of the newly renovated Multipurpose hall.

The Director/Secretary of the FCT Secondary Education Board, Fatima Gambo Babba, noted that the relationship between the FCT Education Secretariat and the Nigeria Customs Service has been a long-standing one. She said, “This intervention reflects growing collaboration between public institutions and the education sector.”

The principal of the school, Mrs. Josephine Ugwu, expressed appreciation to the Service, stating that the intervention, which includes the installation of CCTV cameras and solar-powered lighting, would significantly improve teaching, learning, and overall school development.

Also present at the event were the Permanent Secretary of the FCT Education Secretariat, Mrs. Joy Chinwe Okeke, alongside other key management staff of the Education Secretariat and senior officials of the Nigeria Customs Service.”
