FCT DRTS Receives Several Awards

The Federal Capital Territory Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), has received several prestigious awards in its meritorious service to the residents of the Federal Capital Territory.

The first of these awards was given by The Presidency’s Bureau of Public Service Reforms as the Best State Ministry, Department and Agency (MDA) in ICT Adoption as contained in the recent Govtech Public Service Awards.

Speaking to Abuja Digest during the award ceremony, the Director, DRTS, Dr. Bello Abdul-Lateef, said that the Agency is driven by a commitment to align with global best practices and e-governance masterplan of the FCT Administration.

The Director said the watchword of the Directorate is the need for transparency, efficiency, and accessibility.

“The Directorate took a significant step to revolutionize its operations in 2010 by automating its vehicle registration process”, he added.

According to him, the transition marked a turning point for the Directorate as it addressed the challenges associated with a manual system.”

Bello said that the portal continued to evolve, and in March 2023, The DRTS expanded its services to include vehicle registration on the Self-Service Portal.

He stated that the Directorate has been receiving awards, because it has simplified it’s operations and services via the use of technology; adding that “the Self-Service Portal which is a transformative platform has revolutionized the Directorate’s operations.

Bello emphasized that the benefits of the Portal is allowing for convenience and direct access to essential services, thereby, eliminating touting, and guaranteeing transparency.

The removal of middlemen in vehicle registration processes is a major step toward that has ensured sanity in the sector, the Director restated.

On the awards and recognitions received so far, Dr Bello Abdul-Lateef remarked that the Directorate has received numerous accolades due to its dedication to technological innovation and digital reforms.

The awards include 2022 FCTA award for best Customer friendly Secretariat, Departments and Agencies (SDA);?Best Staff Award that went to Mr. Auwalu Mohammed, the Head of ICT Division.

Thus, in June 2023, DRTS also received the Most Outstanding Stake-Holder in the Motor Vehicle and Administration from ECO-SYSTEM in Nigeria.

Abuja Digest reports that the Director was also honoured alongside The Directorate, with Distinguished Govtech Trailblazer award.
