The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has attributed the rapid pace of development in the nation’s capital to the administration’s fiscal discipline and the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Minister stated this on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, while addressing journalists shortly after conducting a comprehensive inspection of some completed and ongoing high-priority projects spanning the Abuja city centre and the Bwari satellite town.

Projects inspected include the Arterial Road S1 in Kaura District, the completed Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) from Life Camp junction to Ring Road III and the extensive new housing and hostel facilities at the Nigerian Law School, Abuja Campus in Bwari.

Barr. Wike emphasized that commitment, rather than just the availability of funds, was the driving force behind the transformations in the FCT.

In the Minister’s word, “It’s not a question of the amount of money. It has to do with the commitment. You may have all the money in the world but if you are not committed, you won’t achieve much. What is important is being able to utilize the funds in a very prudent way. If you see what we are doing through our IGR, we make sure that it’s being committed to projects. When you are in an administration where the head is giving you so much support, obviously, you have no reason for excuses.”

Speaking on the progress of work at the Nigerian Law School, the FCT Minister noted that the current administration’s intervention was the first time a government has provided such foundational infrastructure for the institution.

He expressed satisfaction with the completed and furnished staff quarters, comprising 10 4-bedroom bungalows, and the pace of work on the 316-bed female hostel. He however, issued a firm charge to the contractor handling the male hostel to accelerate their pace to match the November handover deadline.

Barr Wike said, “I’m quite impressed with the female hostel. I think the contractor is doing well and we need to encourage them to do more so that they will hand over, latest by November. But I’m not impressed with the extent of work at the male hostel. The contract was awarded to them at the same time and I thought they would have been at the same level.

“But the company has told us that whatever it is, they are going to hand over by October or November. I’m sure that the Nigerian Law School will be happy that accommodation has been provided, which means they may increase the number of enrolments”.

The Minister who also confirmed that the dualization of the Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III is now 100 percent complete and set for inauguration during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s third anniversary, equally praised the quality of the three-span bridge on Road S1 in Kaura District, adding that the project was expected to be completed within the next five months.

Speaking on the PDP, Barr. Wike dismissed claims of division within the party, stating, “We have only one PDP, no faction. Some individuals may not be happy, yes, but there is no faction”, adding that while reconciliation within the party was ongoing, the National convention slated for March 29 and 30 will hold as planned.
