The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has officially commissioned the newly completed engineering infrastructure in Wuye District, describing it as another milestone in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the ongoing transformation of Abuja’s cityscape.

While commissioning the project on Tuesday, October 21, Barr. Wike said the commissioning marks the 20th day of project flag-offs/commissioning across the FCT, setting an “unmatched record in the history of the city’s development.”

The Minister expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his leadership and commitment to restoring hope to Nigerians through visible projects that touch lives both in the city and satellite towns.

Reaffirming the President’s vision to renew the hope of the people, Wike recalled: “When this administration came in, the President took immediate steps to revive it. The entire Wuye District, with hundreds of hectares of land, was developed to include road networks, sectoral arterials, tunnels, water, and electricity.”

He noted that many Nigerians had lost faith before Tinubu’s coming, adding that he has restored it within one year in office, completing major critical projects, including the Wuye interchange that had solved traffic chaos in the area, submitting: “Today, the entire district is fully developed.”

He commended staff of the FCT Administration for their dedication and   expressed gratitude to every stakeholder, saying “Wherever you go, carry your shoulders high, tell anyone who doubts it that the FCT is working.”

Barr. Wike also thanked the Area Council Chairmen for their support, affirming his support for those who stand with Mr. President, and declaring that “there is a political wave coming soon, a Tsunami, and we are ready for it.”

The Minister also thanked Messrs Arab Contractors for their commitment to the successful completion of the project and their ongoing work on the Airport Road to Kuje dual carriageway.

“For those who have supported the President, I will support you. We are building a record that no administration since the inception of Abuja has achieved.” Wike declared.

He further hinted that after a brief break, attention would shift to the education sector, where another round of commissioning ceremonies would showcase massive interventions across schools in the FCT.

“Twenty days of commissioning is not two days. We will rest briefly and return for the education sector. It will take another 20 days to show what we have achieved there,” he said.

Also speaking, the Minister of State for the FCT thanked President Tinubu for his continued support and lauded the project as a clear testament to the Administration’s commitment to equitable development and inclusivity in the capital city.

She said: “As we celebrate this achievement, let us remember that every milestone is a promise kept, and every completion is a new beginning.”

In his remarks, the Acting Executive Secretary, Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Richard Dauda highlighted the technical scope of the project, explaining that the Wuye District infrastructure covers 37.5 kilometres of roads, including arterial, connector, and local streets, supported by underground water, stormwater, and sewer networks.

He added that the project includes two river bridges, a flyover interchange connecting Wuse and Wuye districts, two power substations, over 90 transformers, 1,350 streetlights, and telecommunication ducts, among other facilities.

“The completion of Wuye District infrastructure has enhanced private and commercial development, improved traffic flow, strengthened security, and boosted economic activity within the city,” the FCDA boss noted.

He explained further that Wuye District covers about 411 hectares of land with over 1,200 plots and an estimated population of 4,000 residents, adding that the district is strategically located between Utako, Wuse, Dakibiyu, and Kukwaba Districts, serving as a vital link between Phases I and II of the Abuja Master Plan.

Abuja Digest reports that the commissioning event was attended by top government officials, Arab contractors, community representatives, and members of the media.
