The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike has flagged off the reconstruction of the Karu Road, stretching from Karu Interchange to Customs Clinic Junction in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), on Wednesday, 3rd September 2025.

Speaking at the ceremony, the FCT Minister said the project was a fulfillment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda (RHA) aimed at developing both the city centre and adjoining satellite towns.

He recalled the earlier inauguration of the Karu Water Supply Project, where he promised to attend to the Karu Interchange Road and noted that the new road works were a continuation of the government’s commitment to uplifting communities.

“Mr. President promised to develop the cities and satellite towns, and today we are seeing it here in Karu. The people of Karu, this is your turn,” Wike declared.

The minister further revealed that alongside the 5.4km road, additional adjoining roads such as Customs Clinic Junction to CBN and EFCC, NIA Quarters, Primus Hospital, and Peshe Roads will also be reconstructed and fitted with solar-powered streetlights.

He reiterated that the essence of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is to bring Hope back to the People, adding that hope has come back to the people of Karu and that all the roads will have solar-powered street lights, which will open up businesses and improve the standard of living in the area.

Barr. Wike also commended Senator Philip Aduda and AMAC Chairman, Christopher Maikalangu, for their role in advocating for infrastructural development for their people.

The Minister assured that his administration would continue to encourage local contractors and charged the construction company, Abdul Val Ltd., to deliver the project within ten months.

He also tasked the youth to protect infrastructure as a collective responsibility, saying: “Own this project; its success is your prosperity,” he stated, highlighting anticipated economic boosts for businesses along the improved corridors.

Barr. Wike also urged residents to hold their leaders accountable while supporting government initiatives.

Giving the vote of thanks, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, expressed profound gratitude to President Tinubu for his life-transforming vision and praised Barr. Wike’s pragmatic leadership, which she said had been instrumental in reshaping Abuja’s infrastructure.

She also commended the contractors and community leaders for their cooperation.

Speaking earlier, the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, described the road rehabilitation as highly significant, stressing that it would improve the socio-economic well-being of residents Karu site.

Zulkifu outlined the project scope to include the construction of a 5.4km dual carriageway, box culverts of different dimensions, a 100-meter walkway, installation of solar-powered streetlights, among others.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of Abdul Val Nigeria Ltd, Otunba Suleiman, assured the FCT Minister of quality and timely delivery, and sought the cooperation of the residents.

“We will bring our expertise to bear on this project. It is not just about roads but about improving the quality of life. We ask for your patience and cooperation,” he said.
