The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday, 25 November 2025, conducted an extensive inspection tour of ongoing infrastructure projects across the Territory.
The Minister reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s dedication to meeting deadlines and elevating the quality of life for residents.
At the Airport Road-Kuje axis, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work by Arab Contractors, the firm handling the project.
“We are impressed. This is a major milestone. When we assumed office, the contractor was absent. Today, the residents are happy, and so are we,” Wike stated.
The Minister disclosed that the road project was awarded in 2019 but stalled post-COVID, expressing hope that it is now on track and expected to be completed by June 2026.
He added that the project would boost economic activities within the Kuje area and the FCT as a whole.
Wike also inspected work on the dualization of the Kuje-Gwagwalada road, executed by Gilmore Engineering.
Highlighting the project’s strategic importance to the area, the Minister said: “Residents moving between Kuje and Gwagwalada will no longer need to detour through the Airport Road. This is transformative for commerce and mobility.”
With 70-80% of work already completed, Wike urged contractors to adhere to timelines, vowing to continue strict oversight to ensure timely and quality delivery.
Addressing concerns over waste disposal, the Minister admitted dissatisfaction with the current contractors’ performance.
“I’ve personally toured the city, and the results are underwhelming,” he declared ahead of a critical meeting with service providers.
He, however, noted: “Waste management is a global challenge, but we are here to solve problems, not make excuses.”
Responding to queries about development in the Area Councils, particularly in education, Wike dismissed critics as “ill-informed,” saying, “We will soon flag off and commission interventions in the education sector. Development is continuous, but we are laying a solid foundation under the Renewed Hope Agenda’s rural-urban development vision.”
When asked about project obstructions, the Minister praised residents and local leaders for their support. “Who loses if projects are delayed? The people. Thankfully, we’ve enjoyed overwhelming cooperation,” he noted, citing synergy with Area Council Chairmen as pivotal to progress.
