The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has urged residents to demonstrate true citizenship by constructively engaging government and drawing attention to pressing community needs rather than resorting to social media criticism.
Barr. Wike made the call during the official commissioning of newly constructed Roads, ILS11 (Esther Bali Street) and MAR24 (Kez Udezue Street) in Mabushi District, on Thursday, 16 October 2025.
He emphasised that good citizenship entails concern for the welfare and development of one’s environment, adding that responsible citizens complement government efforts by providing useful feedback.
“A good citizen thinks about the welfare of their country and community. It’s not about criticising on social media or seeking attention. No government can complete all projects, but when citizens call our attention to neglected areas, a responsible government must respond,” Wike said.
The minister recounted how Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Damien Dodo, drew his attention to the deplorable state of roads in Mabushi, prompting immediate government intervention.
He commended Dodo’s civic-mindedness and announced that the city would honour him for exemplifying the values of good citizenship.
His words: “Let me assure you that the FCT will honour you for being a good citizen”.
Wike also commended the contractor, Lubrik Construction Company Limited, for their speed and quality of delivery, completing the road within six months.
He reiterated the FCT Administration’s commitment to partnering with contractors and communities that share in the development vision of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“This contract was awarded six months ago, and before the final papers were even completed, the contractor had already gone far. That is the confidence they have in this administration. We will continue to work with partners who believe in our developmental goals,” Wike added.
He further commended the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), for his commitment and diligence, charging him to maintain the tempo, noting that working with him requires focus and resilience.
In her vote of thanks, the CT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, expressed gratitude to Mr. President for his steady leadership and enduring belief that the prosperity of Nigeria begins with the strength and functionality of its capital city.
She equally acknowledged the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike as the driver of the Renewed Hope Agenda whose purposeful leadership, passion for infrastructure renewal, and bold drive for results has ignited a new era of development within the FCT.
“To the residents and community leaders, this project is for your prosperity. Take ownership of it and ensure its sustainability,” she urged.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the FCDA, Richard Dauda, presented an overview of the project, explaining that the provision of access roads on Esther Bali and Kez Udezue Streets in the Mabushi district was part of the administration’s broader plan to provide engineering infrastructure to districts yet to be fully developed.
According to him, the project comprises asphalt-paved roads, surface water drainage systems, walkways, culverts, street lighting, and water supply networks all designed to improve mobility, enhance security, and boost socio-economic activities in Mabushi District.
“The completion of these roads will not only provide access and municipal services but will also reduce travel time, enhance security, and improve the overall quality of life for residents,” Dauda stated.
He appreciated President Tinubu and the FCT Minister for their leadership and unwavering commitment to the capital’s infrastructural development.
Abuja Digest reports that the newly commissioned roads mark another milestone in the FCT Administration’s ongoing effort to expand access, improve urban mobility, and promote sustainable development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
