The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) FCT Chapter has announced suspension of its three-month strike action, effective midnight, July 15, 2025.
A press release issued by the Union on Monday, 14th July, 2025, and signed by NULGE President, FCT, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Kabi, and its Secretary, Comrade Abdulmumini Sa’ad, has disclosed.
The press release reads in part: “This decision follows the intervention of the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, who directed the utilization of the Area Councils’ 10% Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to offset three months’ salary arrears.
“The union’s State Executive Council (SEC) meeting, held on July 14, 2025, at the State Secretariat in Gwagwalada, Abuja, resolved to suspend the strike after exhaustive deliberations and appeals from the Honourable Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, FCT Traditional Council, and other key stakeholders.”
It further reveals that key resolutions reached at the meeting include; NULGE to work with a special committee to be constituted by the FCT Minister to harmonize all outstanding arrears within two weeks, to reach a holistic resolution through the National Assembly House Committee on FCT and ancillary matters.
Another resolution is for the Union to engage with the Area Council Chairmen to address outstanding issues, including the 40% Peculiar Allowance, CONHESS/CONMESS and CONPSS salary adjustments, and other entitlements
NULGE also resolved to be committed to sustaining industrial peace and harmony within the council and the FCT at large.
The Union therefore expressed profound gratitude to the FCT Minister, FCT Traditional Council, and all other relevant stakeholders for their efforts in resolving this industrial action.
NULGE also renewed its commitment to engaging with the Area Council Chairmen on the remaining entitlements and outstanding issues.
