The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, CP Miller Gajere Dantawaye, psc, has assured residents and visitors of adequate security as the year winds down and activities heighten across the nation’s capital.
In an end-of-year message issued on Thursday, the Commissioner extended warm festive greetings to residents and visitors while reaffirming the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace, safety, and public order throughout the Territory as Nigeria transitions into 2026.
According to the statement, the FCT Police Command has deployed 2,202 personnel across the Territory in line with the 2025 festive season operational order. The deployment is aimed at ensuring a peaceful, secure, and hitch-free celebration during the yuletide period.
Police operatives have been strategically stationed at places of worship, recreational and event centres, major highways, motor parks, and other public spaces. The deployment is further reinforced by visibility policing, intelligence-led patrols, and surveillance of identified black spots, uncompleted buildings, and shanties that could be exploited by criminal elements.
The statement made available by the Public Relations Officer, DSP Josephine Adeh noted that tactical units, rapid response squads, and patrol teams are fully engaged, with intensified vehicular and foot patrols ongoing across the FCT. The Command is also collaborating closely with sister security agencies to ensure coordinated and comprehensive security coverage.
In line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units have been deployed to conduct routine sweeps at places of worship and other public gathering points, while general security monitoring has been heightened to promptly detect and neutralise any threats.
The Commissioner reiterated that the use of fireworks, firecrackers, banga, knock-out, or similar explosive devices remains prohibited within the FCT, warning that violators will be arrested and prosecuted according to the law.
CP Dantawaye urged residents to remain law-abiding and vigilant, and to promptly report suspicious persons, movements, or items to the nearest police station.
He assured the public of the Command’s readiness to ensure a safe and peaceful festive season for all.
