FCT RUWASSA FLAGS OFF HAND WASHING CAMPAIGN FOR FCT SCHOOLS

 The Federal Capital Territory Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (FCT-RUWASSA) has launched a sensitization campaign on the importance of proper hand washing (hygiene promotion) at LEA Primary School, Wuse Zone 6, on Thursday, 28 November 2025.

In her opening remarks, the Acting Director of FCT RUWASSA, Abigail Patricia Ekpenisi, encouraged the pupils to cultivate the habit of regular hand washing as a way to prevent infectious diseases such as cholera, typhoid fever, and malaria.

She emphasized that the theme of the event, “Be a Hand Washing Hero,” is intended to enccourage the pupils to become ambassadors of hygiene by teaching their parents and younger siblings at home. She stated that the children are the leaders of tomorrow and must learn and practice healthy habits early.

Ekpenisi also thanked the Headmistress of the school for the opportunity to sensitize the pupils.

Delivering his goodwill message, the PTA Chairman of LEA Primary School, Wuse Zone 6, Alh. Mohammed Arab Kolo commended RUWASSA for the initiative. He encouraged the pupils to develop the habit of washing their hands regularly with soap and water so they can grow healthy, disciplined, and ready to learn. He also stressed the need for parents to be enlightened on the importance of proper hand washing for sustainability.

The Headmistress of the school, Elem Kama, appreciated RUWASSA for choosing her school for the sensitization programme.

She expressed hope that other schools would also benefit from the initiative, noting that hers is the first to be selected.

The event concluded with a practical demonstration of proper hand-washing techniques with soap and water.
