As part of efforts to improve the quality of education in the FCT, the Federal Capital Territory Universal Basic Education Board (FCT-UBEB) has commissioned six mini buses to ensure effective monitoring of schools across the Territory.
The commissioning of the buses are meant for monitoring activities for the Quality Assurance of Educational facilities in the FCT.
The Acting UBEB Chairman, Dr. Alhassan Sule, who commissioned the six mini buses, twenty-eight mini Computers (Tablets) and a public address system at Government Junior Secondary School, Area 10 FCT, Garki, Abuja, said these facilities have been made available in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President in the education sector of the FCT.
Sule, explained that the Quality Assurance Department, as one of the sensitive key Departments, has the responsibility of not only ensuring standardization in the teaching and learning process, but also seeing that the standards are maintained.
The Chairman explained that, if the Renewed Hope Agenda must be achieved in the educational sector, the department of Quality Assurance in UBEB must be well equipped and funded for the purpose of effective and efficient monitoring and inspection.
His words: “In achieving the vision and mission statement of the Department of Quality Assurance, mobility has been identified as a key factor.”
He reiterated that, Quality Assurance Evaluators at the headquarters and eight zonal offices must have a suitable, dependable and reliable means of mobility, which evaluators can use continuously, to monitor teaching and learning activities in the 676 Primary and 206 Junior Secondary Schools in the FCT.
The Chairman, however, revealed that, in the previous years, through FCT UBEB/UBEC Intervention, motor cycles were procured and distributed to zonal offices of Quality Assurance across FCT in order to ease the burden of monitoring and supervision of schools by Evaluators and two more motor cycles were also procured for Abaji and Kuje zonal offices.
Sule expressed enthusiasm over the new six Mini-Buses; adding that they will
enhance the efficiency and capacity of the Evaluators at the zonal level.
He disclosed that, approval was given for the purchase of eight Mini-Buses, one for each of the 8 zones, but the harsh reality occasioned by the increase of prices goods, made the Board to purchase six for now.
He, therefore, assured, the two remaining buses will be procured for Apo and Karshi soon.
According to, “the following zonal offices will have their Mini-Buses today during the commissioning: Abaji, Kwali, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Bwari and Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Wuse zone 3. Karshi and Apo zonal offices will have theirs in due course.”
The FCT-UBEB Boss assured the public that the Quality Assurance Department of FCTUBEB cannot remain as he met it in the past; but promised to continue to collaborate with the FCT Education Secretariat and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that basic facilities are provided in order to motivate Evaluators to put in their best in monitoring and supervision of basic schools.
He expressed appreciation to the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, and the Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, for supporting FCT UBEB through their positive intervention in ensuring that Education is given the desired attention in FCT.
Also speaking at the event, the Director Quality Assurance, Universal Basic Education Commission,(UBEC) Helen Okoro, also said that the procurement and distribution of the Buses to the six zones is done to ensure effective monitoring and supervision of schools towards attaining quality education in the FCT.
She added that the UBEC will continue to support the FCT UBEB for the purpose of achieving effective and quality education in FCT.
