The Mandate Secretary, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Youth and Sports Development Secretariat, Alhaji Lawan Kolo-Geidam, has charged staff of the secretariat to be disciplined, proactive, and committed to excellence in service delivery as it commemorated its first anniversary with a sensitisation and orientation workshop in Abuja.

The one-day event, held recently at the Mini Conference Hall, Cyprian Ekwensi Arts and Culture Complex, Garki Area 10, was themed “Proactive Service Delivery in the Face of Challenges.” It brought together junior staff, senior officers, and seasoned facilitators to strengthen capacity and enhance workplace productivity.

In his keynote address, the Mandate Secretary of the Secretariat, Alhaji Lawan Kolo Geidan, said the workshop was not just a training exercise but a reaffirmation of the Secretariat’s commitment to raising service standards. He urged staff to embrace proactive work ethics, uphold discipline, and deliver quality service without bias or sentiment.

“We operate in an environment of growing challenges, but within those challenges lie opportunities to innovate and excel. Whether you are a clerk, driver, messenger, or cleaner, your role is vital to our collective success,” Geidan stated. He further assured that hard work would be rewarded, and staff welfare would remain a priority.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat, Mrs. Nancy Sabanti Nathan, explained that the workshop aimed to refresh staff knowledge on administrative procedures, official communication channels, and service standards. She expressed confidence that participants would leave with deeper insight and improved efficiency.

Resource persons at the event delivered impactful papers, including Mr. Albert Nnamani, Assistant Director in the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, who emphasised the importance of mastering civil service rules and sharpening communication skills. The Director of Administration at the FCT Hospital Management Board, Mr. Ghali Kassim, spoke on total quality management, urging civil servants to maintain professionalism, accountability, and proper record-keeping in their daily duties.

The anniversary workshop was widely seen as a timely platform for staff reorientation, setting a renewed tone for service delivery within the Secretariat.
