The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has introduced e- ticketing System to fine traffic offenders in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Accordingly, the introduction of e-ticketing signifies the end of the use of manual booking sheets and the commencement of receiving tickets via email, WhatsApp and text messages.

The Director, Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), Dr. Bello Abdul-Lateef made this revelation during a media parley at the Directorate’s Headquarters in Mabushi District, Abuja.

The Director said that the introduction of e-ticketing system (ETS) expected to enhance transparency in the process of booking of offenders and payment of fines.

The Director, who was represented at the parley by Deborah Osho, Deputy Director/ Head Of Operations explained that one of the advantages of The ETS is the reduction of traffic offences, which will lead to safer and conducive environment for driving public.

According to him, “The ETS has made it impossible to commit offence in Gwagwalada, and coming to operate in Garki. No matter where the offence is committed, the offender can easily be traced, because they have been profiled and their details documented online”.

Abdul-Lateef explained that this helps in determining if an offender is a first time offender or a serial offender.

His words: “For each offence, there’s a point. For example driving without Drivers licence attracts 20 points and you have to go through the process of immediately obtaining one. And seizure of Drivers licence is one punitive measure to deal with the menace of serial offenders.”

The Directorate appealed to members of the Public to support the initiative, because it is meant to provide efficient and effective service to residents.

The Director urged Road users to cooperate with Officers and Men of the Directorate and also obey Road Traffic Regulations so that they don’t become offenders.
