In order to ensure a crime-free festive season, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has intensified its “Operation Sweep” campaign, targeting miscreants and criminal elements across key locations in the FCT.

Led by Director of the Department of Security Services, Adamu Gwary, the task force stormed strategic hotspots including Apo Bridge, Area 1 Roundabout, Julius Berger Junction, and Utako Motor Park on Monday, 22nd December, 2025, issuing stern warnings to operators and deploying security personnel to blackspots.

Gwary, who was represented by the Department’s Command and Control Secretary, Dr. Olumiji Peter, emphasized that the FCTA, in collaboration with security agencies, is determined to rid the city of criminal activities.

“This yuletide is a time for families to reunite in peace, not for criminals to wreak havoc,” Gwary stated. “The Honourable Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has given a clear mandate -Operation Sweep must crush all forms of criminality.”

The crackdown includes dismantling of illegal motor parks, which often serve as hideouts for “one-chance” syndicates. The FCT Police Command has also deployed officers to critical areas following a directive from the Commissioner of Police.

Meanwhile, Ukachi Adebayo, Head of Enforcement at the FCT Social Development Secretariat, revealed that 481 beggars have been evacuated in the past two weeks.

“We profile them, provide welfare, and offer training to those willing to learn,” Adebayo explained.

Supporting the initiative, Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Utako Park, Adamu Abubakar, assured that unregistered motorists would not be allowed to operate.

“We are committed to profiling all members, especially newcomers, to maintain safety,” he pledged.
