The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) would pay the sum of ₦1.1 billion as compensation to persons, whose property would be affected by the Kuje road dualization project.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who made this disclosure after inspection tour of some
on-going projects in Abuja, Tuesday, said that the action is to avoid delay in completion of the Kuje road project.
His words: “If I remember vividly, the entire estimate they gave was ₦1.1 billion. And to pay for those whose properties are affected, like some of these buildings you have seen here, down to the community. I am going to make it available so that the contractor will not find any excuse for delay.”
The Minister explained that he had to visit the site to verify what was sent to him for approval; saying that “when I got the files for approval, I said it would be proper for me to see for myself the kind of structures which I was going to pay for”.
Responding to a question on the newly announced ₦70, 0000 minimum wage for staff of the FCT Administration, the Minister tasked them not to relax in their efforts at developing the FCT, but rather put in more, because the minimum wage increment was a boost that required more commitment from the staff.
Wike further stated that the wage increment was a commitment by the Federal Government under the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’, which the FCTA has adopted and had also approved payment of its arrears.
