The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has charged newly deployed National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to conduct themselves peacefully and channel their skills toward meaningful service as they resume duties across communities in the FCT.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘C’ orientation course held at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Kubwa, on December 9, 2025, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, emphasized that discipline, respect for community values and a commitment to service would endear the corps members to residents and enhance their effectiveness.
Represented by the Mandate Secretary, Youth and Sports Development Secretariat and Chairman of the FCT NYSC Governing Board, Alhaji Lawan Kolo Geidam, the Minister noted that the three-week orientation had equipped participants with essential skills through the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme designed to reduce post-service unemployment.
“The people of the FCT are warm, hospitable and always eager to engage with people from different backgrounds, especially members of the NYSC. Security of lives and property remains a top priority for the FCTA, and we encourage you to uphold the values of peace and lawful conduct as you integrate into your host communities,” he said.
He underscored the importance of nation-building and socio-economic development, urging the corps members to accept their postings in good faith and apply themselves to community development projects that would leave lasting impact. She assured them that all parts of the territory remain accessible through modern, affordable transportation and communication networks, encouraging those posted to rural areas to serve with dedication.
Earlier, the NYSC FCT Coordinator, Mr. Samson Ateli, described the orientation programme as one deliberately crafted to empower young Nigerians, nurture leadership qualities and ignite a sense of national purpose.
He expressed confidence that the corps members had been adequately prepared to become positive change agents throughout their service year.
Ateli also appreciated the unwavering support of the FCTA in creating an enabling environment for the scheme to flourish in the Federal Capital Territory.
The event marked the formal commencement of the compulsory one-year national service for thousands of young graduates deployed to the FCT, posted to various public and private organisations and establishments.
