FEC Approves 2nd Runway Contract For Abuja Airport, Others

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the construction of a 2nd runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja to end unnecessary delay of aircrafts on arrival and take off.
Senior Special Assistant to President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, disclosed this at the end of the meeting, presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in Abuja, Wednesday.
Shehu revealed that, FEC has already approved the sum of N3.4 billion for the construction of the 2nd runway and associated facilities at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, to ensure adequate safety on arrival and taking off of aircrafts in Abuja.
The SSA added that the Council also approved the sum of N449.9 million for the engagement of consultants for the development of Master plan for 17 Airports in Nigeria.
His words: “FEC approved the sum of N449.9 million for the engagement of consultants for the development of Master Plan for 17 Airports in Nigeria. The benefiting airports are located in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, Owerri, Benin, Enugu, Maiduguri, Yola, Kaduna, Calabar, Ilorin, Sokoto, Ibadan, Jos, Akure and Katsina.”
The Senior Special Assistant also gave details of approvals of other contracts which is over N100 billion for the Ogoni community of Rivers State.
He further revealed that two major contracts were approved for Ogoni, which include; contract for a water project that has been awarded under the 2nd phase in Ogoni land, amounting to N22.8 billion.
He said, an approval was also given for the award of contract for the new remediation of the identified hydrocarbon impacted sites along the shoreline of Ogoni land and this is for about N107 billion.
Shehu reiterated that, these infrastructural development projects under the Buhari led administration is geared towards improving the socio-economic activities in the country.
