GSS KARSHI SHINES AT JCI 2025 SECONDARY SCHOOL DEBATE

In an exciting mood, Government Secondary School Karshi has emerged the overall winner at the prestigious Junior Chamber International (JCI) Annual Secondary School Debate 2025, which was held recently at the ICPC Headquarters Auditorium, Abuja.

The fiercely contested debate competition with the theme “The Role of Technology in Fighting Financial Corruption: A Game Changer or a Flawed Solution?” featured some of the brightest minds from 14 top Secondary Schools of Private and Public Schools across the FCT, igniting powerful discourse on Government surveillance, cashless policies, and the ethical implications of digital technology in combating corruption.

In her welcome address, Chairperson of the Secondary Schools Debate JCI, Jessica Austin, emphasized the need to empower young minds with platforms that enhance civic engagement and critical thinking. She commended the students for showcasing their intellectual abilities and sportsmanship.

She reiterates JCI’s commitment to building young leaders who are active citizens and ethical change makers.

Delivering his keynote address, Dr. Demola Bakare, a renowned development expert challenged Students to become Champions of Transparency in the digital era.

In their various goodwill messages,the representatives of partner organizations such as ICPC, UNODC, and MTN affirmed their support for Youth-Centered Anti-Corruption Education for a holistic and healthy Society, encouraging the students to utilize every opportunity that will bring their innate potential to the limelight.

In his congratulatory message, the principal of the school, Alhaji Kobi Yahaya, expressed delight and pride over the remarkable victory of the school and commended the students for their outstanding performance and unwavering commitment to both academic and moral excellence.

In the keenly contested competition,the school secured the highest score of 547 points, clinching the championship title, while Miss Fauziya Ibrahim, a student of the school, emerged as the Best Speaker of the JCI 2025 Debate.

The principal explained that the victory reflects hard work, discipline, and the high standards of the FCT Education Secretariat.

He stated that the students have once again proven that excellence is achievable with focus and dedication. He encourages them to remain steadfast and not rest on their laurels, as such exceptional feats will open greater doors of recognition and opportunity.

Kobo also commended the Director/Secretary of the FCT Secondary Education Board, Dr. Sani Mohammed Ladan, for his relentless efforts in fostering a conducive and holistic learning environment across FCT Schools. He noted that the support and visionary leadership of Dr. Ladan has greatly contributed to the continual rise in educational standards within the Territory.

He expressed his appreciation to the Organizers for providing the platform and support system that enables our students to thrive and compete favorably,”

He added. that “Government Secondary School Karshi remains committed to making the FCT proud and will continue to promote values that reflect excellence, discipline, and innovation.”

The highlight of the Debate Competition is the presentation of a trophy, ₦100,000 cash prize, and branded School Bags to the winners.

The Junior Chamber International (JCI) Annual Secondary School Debate is designed to sharpen students’ oratory and critical thinking skills while promoting civic awareness, dialogue, and leadership among the Youth.
