A modern Diabetes Treatment Center with Medical Outpatient’s Department (MOPD) Clinic has been donated to Gwarinpa General Hospital by the Lions Club International, Wuse District.

Speaking during the Commissioning of the facility, the Director-General of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Hospitals Management Board (HMB), Dr. Mohammed Kawu, appreciated the kind gesture of the Lions Club.
Dr. Kawu said that the gesture is a demonstration of responsibility to develop the country by nongovernmental organizations.

His words: “This unprecedented action by the Lions Club shows that the development of the country can be a shared responsibility between the government, individuals and/or organized partners.”

He, thus, extended the appreciation of the Minister of FCT, Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello, Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani-Aliyu and the Permanent Secretary, FCT, Mr. Adesola Olusade to all members of Lions Club of Wuse District, Nigeria and their branches Worldwide.

Dr. Kawu also commended the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Halima Bello for her meticulousness and zeal in maintaining the facilities of the Hospital.

The HMB Boss enjoined the staff of the hospital to upscale their care and maintenance of the hospital facilities.

According to him, “we all complain and criticize, forgetting that all of us contributed to the problems of the country. If everybody does what he or she is supposed to do at their own level, we can definitely achieve much better results.”

In her goodwill message, a former President of Lions Club, Mrs. Ramota Baba-Ahmed said the initiative to put up the facility commenced in 2019 but was delayed due to COVID-19 Pandemic.

She explained that the funds for the project came from well-meaning individuals,
who sacrificed for the good of humanity and therefore, called on goodspirited Nigerians to give as a way of assistance to fully equip the facility.

Mrs. Ahmed told Abuja Digest that people saw her as a ‘dreamer’ when she undertook the project but today all is history.

She thanked her team and expressed hope that the facility will be put to judicious use for the benefit of all humanity.

She appreciated the Medical Director of the Hospital for the uncommon push she gave the project.

Welcoming guests to the brief ceremony, the Chief Medical Director of Gwarinpa General Hospital, Dr. Halima Bello, appreciated the Lions Club for the donation.
