Illegal Land Allocation: FCTA to Establish Zonal Offices to Curb Illegality -Secretary

The Secretary, Area Council Services Secretariat, Ibrahim Abubakar has stated that the Federal Capital Territory Administration would establish zonal offices to curb indiscriminate sale of land by local chiefs in the Territory.

Abubakar made the disclosure on Thursday, while speaking in his Area 11, Garki office during 2022 End of Year Press Briefing in Abuja.

The Secretary, who noted that the FCTA has stopped all graded chiefs from engaging in land allocation or sale, added that nobody was allowed to allocate any portion of the land within the FCT, apart from the FCT Minister, who is the only person with the right to allocate or revoke any land.

“I want to use this medium to tell those in FCT that the Administration has given approval for the consideration of zonal offices to curtail indiscriminate sales and purchase of land in FCT”.

He assured that the FCTA was on top of the situation as some of this chiefs were been relived of their chieftaincy titles while others suspended because of the act.

“So, I am telling you that the Administration is not taking this lightly. We don’t encourage this illegality and there is a severe punishment for anyone found wanting. After facing the law, he stands to the chance to loose his coveted position as a village chief in the community”.

Meanwhile, Abubakar has pointed that insecurity in the Territory has reduced due to the Administration’s collaboration with security agencies.

He added that drones are being deployed in strategic locations to beef up security in the territory.

“The FCT has beefed up security by putting proactive measures on grounds in the Territory but in collaboration with security chiefs hence reduction in cases of kidnapping and banditry, even as he attributed the achievement to the FCT Minister, Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello and his state counterpart, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani-Aliyu as well as the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Adesola Olusade.
