An International Development Organization, Sightsavers, has called for inclusive and accessible health services for all women and girls, especially those with disabilities, as the World celebrates International Women’s Day.
The Health based organisation said it has made this call as part of its effort to bridge the gender gap which is an abyss as regards health care services in Nigeria.
Sightsavers made this call in a Press Statement in commemoration of the International Women’s day, celebrated in Abuja, Friday.
Accordingly, the statement said, women and girls face inequalities that increase their risk of disease, disability, gender-based violence, and mortality.
The statement added, “for many women, getting their health issues addressed is at the bottom of a long list of challenges and priorities.”
The statement said that Sightsavers celebrates women who are making efforts to fight these challenges.
The statement which was signed by the Research Associate at Sightsavers Nigeria, Omosefe Osinoiki, who is leading the researcher into female genital schistosomiasis (FGS) in the country, said that the challenges in this space must be overcome.
