Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence in the timely completion of ongoing infrastructure projects across the Territory, following an extensive inspection tour.

Speaking to journalists after assessing multiple project sites on Monday, 13 April, 2026, Wike stated that road construction and streetlight installations are on track for completion by May 15 and the end of May, respectively.

In Wassa, the Minister highlighted the administration’s commitment to relocating informal sector operators, particularly mechanics, to a newly developed site with proper infrastructure. The project, handled by CGC Nigeria Limited, is expected to be finalized by the end of May. Wike emphasized the government’s dedication to improving livelihoods by providing conducive workspaces for artisans.

The Minister also expressed satisfaction with work on the construction of the connector roads in Gaduwa District, and Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) from Gudu Cemetery through Apo and Waru-Pozema, up to Wassa.

This is as he underscored the strong working relationship between the FCT Administration and contractors, attributing smooth project delivery to mutual adherence to contractual agreements. “Once contracts are awarded, contractors must deliver, and the government fulfills its payment obligations,” he stated.

When asked about the possibility of President Bola Tinubu commissioning the projects on schedule, Wike acknowledged the challenge of securing the President’s presence for all events but assured that appropriate arrangements would be made, including commissioning by representatives wherever necessary.

Responding to reports that a political party was denied access to the Abuja Eagle Square for a convention, Wike dismissed the allegations as baseless. He clarified that no formal application had either  been submitted to his office nor the Abuja Investments Property Limited, which manages the facility.

“The process is straightforward -apply, pay the required fees, and access is granted. The PDP and APC followed this procedure without issues. If any party claims denial, they should provide proof of a submitted application,” he stressed.

The Minister further emphasized that, using the Eagle Square would mean generating more IGR for the Administration hence he won’t prevent usage of the venue.

Addressing concerns about the Kugbo Bus Terminal, Wike also refuted claims of structural collapse, attributing the damage to an intense windstorm. “The roofing sheets were blown off due to the terminal’s elevated location, but the building’s structural integrity remains intact. Repairs are already underway,” he explained.

The Minister reassured the public that no lives were lost, emphasizing that the incident was a natural occurrence, not a construction flaw.
