The Nigeria Police Force, FCT Command, has warned residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) against raising false security alarms in the nation’s capital.
Commissioner of Police Miller Dantawaye issued this warning while briefing journalists after an expanded security council meeting of the FCT Administration and security agencies.
The meeting, presided over by the Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, was held at his official Life Camp residence on Wednesday, 26th November 2025.
In particular, the CP refuted claims of security threats at Veritas University in Bwari and Government Secondary School, Tungan Maje, in Gwagwalada Area Council.
In his words: “Just yesterday, we had two cases where, in a university around town, people thought they saw criminals. When we got there, we discovered that no bandit attack had even been attempted at those locations.
“And then in another school, a secondary school, children went to ease themselves and saw farmers. There was a lot of pandemonium and confusion, thinking that they were kidnappers. Within five minutes, security agencies responded, and we had a very robust interface with the students and the school.
“So, the two cases we had yesterday -both in Veritas University and Government Secondary School, around Tungan Maje, turned out to be false alarms.
“So please, we want to appeal to residents of the FCT to know that we’re on top of our game. We’ll continue to do our best, and we have the requisite support from the FCT Administration,” he assured.
CP Dantawaye disclosed that four operational sectors have been created under the newly relaunched Operation Sweep security initiative in the FCT.
According to him, one sector will focus on Bwari Area Council, another on Gwagwalada Area Council, while the remaining two, covering the city, will also oversee areas like Karu, Mararaba, Karshi, and Orozo, among others.
Praising the FCT Minister for providing necessary logistics, the CP stated that the initiative would tackle crimes and criminal activities that pop up within and around the FCT.
Reassuring residents of safety, the CP revealed that massive personnel deployments have been made, including security for places of worship.
“So, our Christian brothers and Muslim brothers should go about carrying out their religious functions because, on Fridays, we are going to secure almost all, if not all mosques. And on Sundays, we will do the same for churches.
“So, I appeal to FCT residents to continue with their day-to-day activities, knowing that we will continue to do our best to secure them,” he assured.
The Police Commissioner also noted that shanties were identified as hotspots for criminal activities and stated that the police would provide necessary support for the removal of such structures across the Territory.
Additionally, he warned residents to be cautious of dispatch riders, revealing that about two were in police custody for transporting drugs, including Indian hemp, among other illicit substances.
