The Satellite Town Development Department has embarked on another phase of its Clean and Green Satellite Town initiative, focusing on evacuating and cleaning drainage across various areas.

The activity, which was led by the Director of Environmental Services, Dauda Akun, aims to keep the satellite towns clean and green.

The mop-up exercise, which began this week in June 2025, covered areas such as Gwagwalada, Kuje, Abaji, and Kwali, with a mop-up operation continuing at Onex and Bwari.

The Coordinator of the Satellite Town Development Department, Hon. AbdulKadri Zulkiflu, emphasized the importance of keeping the satellite towns clean, particularly during the rainy season.

He said dirty environments can lead to the spread of diseases such as Lassa fever, diarrhea, and other waterborne illnesses. Hon. Zulkiflu warned that dumping waste in drainages poses a significant danger to the community, as it can cause flooding, which affects everyone regardless of social status.

Through this medium, Hon. Zulkiflu urges residents in the six Area Councils to refrain from dumping waste in drainages and to develop a habit of keeping their surroundings clean. He also advised residents to package their waste properly and keep it in designated areas for easy evacuation.

Hon. Zulkiflu emphasized that the Barr. Nyesom Wike-led administration is committed to keeping the satellite towns clean and green, adding that there the need for collective responsibility in maintaining a clean and green environment.

He noted that the Satellite Town Development Department remains dedicated to ensuring the cleanliness and greenification of the satellite towns.

The coordinator of Satellite Towns also called on residents to join hands with the STDD in keeping their environment clean and green.

“Let’s work together to prevent the spread of diseases and promote a healthier environment. The clean-up exercise is part of a broader initiative to enhance the quality of life for residents, and they are committed to serving their community better. The importance of this activity cannot be overemphasized.” The Cordinator reiterated.

The Director of Environmental Services, Dauda Akun, on behalf of the coordinator, led his team of professional environmentalists to the field across the six area councils to ensure that everywhere is clean and free from the outbreak of diseases.
