The Provost of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) College of Education, Zuba, Dr. Sule Mundi, has urged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to uphold the spirit of unity, represent Nigeria positively, and apply the valuable skills they acquired during their service year.

The provost stated this on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, during a send-forth ceremony in honour of the outgoing corps members of Batch B, Streams 1 and 2, who served in the College.

Dr. Mundi, who was represented by the Deputy Provost, Dr. Mrs. Gbemisola Olotu, congratulated the corp members and appreciated the College management for their crucial role in supporting the needs of corps members. He said that despite the current financial challenges, the Institution has prioritised the welfare of the youths by awarding them cash prizes.

He encouraged them to leverage the current digital era by learning new skills and exploring online platforms such as Cisco and LinkedIn. Dr. Mundi also advised them to connect with skilled professionals and to make judicious use of the knowledge they acquired during their service year.

He said that the financial rewards they received should be viewed as seeds for investment, urging them to start small by exploring every available opportunity while wishing them well in their future endeavours.

In her welcome address, the Acting Registrar, Zainab Suleiman Itakure, expressed her pleasure, emphasising the pivotal role the College played in shaping the corps members. She encouraged them to remember the values and skills acquired during their service and to apply them in their future pursuits.

The Acting Registrar disclosed that four outstanding corps members were selected and recognised by the provost and awarded cash prizes based on their attendance and dedication, while others received cash tokens.

In a goodwill message, the Dean of the School of Education, Dr. Ayuba Badamasi Tarda, emphasised the significance of events like this, describing it as inspiring as it showcases Nigeria’s unity and diversity. He noted that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme serves as an eye-opener for corps members, allowing them to experience life in other parts of the Country.

Dr. Tarda commended the corps members and reminded all present that the current economy favours those with skills, not just certificates. Tarda praised the awardees for their dedication and encouraged all corps members to commit themselves fully to their work, assuring them that hard work will be recognised by both God and man.

Dean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences, Dr. Amina Tijjani, in her goodwill message, acknowledged the youth’s outstanding performances and encouraged them to strive for excellence, reminding them that the sky is their starting point.

One of the awardees, Najeeb Hassan, on behalf of others, expressed gratitude to the provost and the management for their support during their time at the College.

The Corps Liaison Officer, Babalola Tosin, delivered a vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to the Provost and the College management for the opportunity given to them to serve.
