Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed strong optimism regarding the timely delivery of the strategic road networks linking the Abuja Airport Expressway to Kuje and Gwagwalada.

Speaking today during continuation of his project inspection tour, Wike disclosed that the projects have reached advanced stages and are on track for inauguration by June 2026.

He highlighted the strategic importance of the route, saying it aims to provide a direct link between the airport and satellite towns, significantly reducing travel time and facilitating economic boom and social cohesion.

The Minister confirmed that the Airport to Kuje road has exceeded 70 per cent completion, while the Kuje-Gwagwalada road, has reached about 65 per cent completion.

He noted that once completed, the road will allow travelers moving between Gwagwalada and the city centre to bypass the main airport road entirely, easing traffic congestion.

Wike also noted that the contractors—Arab Contractors for the Airport-Kuje road project and Gilmore Engineering for the Kuje-Gwagwalada dualization -have shown commendable dedication.

“I am quite impressed. You know that the Airport to Kuje road is one road that is very key for us. Then from Kuje to Gwagwalada, the last time I was there… we were well impressed with the level of work done”, the Minister stated.

He further assured residents that the project remained a priority under the Renewed Hope Agenda, with a target commissioning date set for the first week or end of June.

Abuja Digest informs that the Airport–Kuje road project, originally awarded in 2019, had suffered years of delays before being revived by the current FCT administration.

The FCTA recently announced a compensation package of N1.1 billion for properties affected by the construction to ensure work continued without further hitches.
