In his determination to change road infrastructure in the Area Councils, FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, Monday, flagged off re-construction and dualization of the 5-kilometre township road in Kuja, Kuje Area Council.
Wike, who warned contractor handling the project, Arab Contractor Nig. Ltd to show seriousness by mobilizing sufficient equipment to site, threatened that he would revoke the contract if they fail to deliver quality work and on time.
The Minister revealed that it was not in his character to do projects that would last more than a year; adding that he would not tolerate poor work, neither would he entertain excuses for delay in execution of any of his project.
According to him, he would not hesitate to revoke the contract in the face of failure of delivery.
Wike stressed that excuses of rainy season or variations would not be tolerated; adding, “If you cannot do it, you will give us our money back because it is public funds.”
The Minister while disclosing that his Administration was not only constructing roads, added that he would, in two weeks’ time, flag off “total rehabilitation of over forty classrooms” in FCT schools, as well has hospitals, including completion of most of the abandoned projects in the Federal Capital City.
His words: “Very soon the FCT Civil Service Commission will be announced. This has never happened before.”
“Mr. President means well for FCT. That is why you must continue to defend the mandate of Jagaban (Tinubu) because Jagaban means well for the entire country,” he said.
The Minister explained that the move was in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu, by giving hope to the people where all hope was lost.
He added: “The Renewed Hope Agenda is not just on paper. The Renewed Hope Agenda is practical. It is practical because you can see it, you can feel it and you can touch it.”
“I know that yes, things may not be as fast as we expect it but what is important is that Nigerians are beginning to rekindle their hope that things will change. It will take some time, but it is important that they have hope that things will change, and it has started changing from the rural areas,” Wike emphasized.
According to him, the achievements in the FCT so far, was because of the overwhelming support of President Tinubu, who provides all the needed support.
“We are doing well because Mr. President is behind us. Every request we make, Mr. President has always given to us, so for us, we don’t have any excuse not to do what we are supposed to do”, he stressed.
On poverty and insecurity, the Minister said that FCT Administration was working with the Council Chairmen to address the challenges irrespective of political party or religious differences.
“Poverty does not know the political party you belong to; poverty doesn’t know whether you are Party A or Party B. So, we must work together to fight poverty,” he reiterated.
“Insecurity does not know whether you are a rich man’s son or a poor man’s son. So, we must work together to fight insecurity. The Council Chairmen are working with us. Each time there is a problem we come together, and that is how it’s supposed to be,” the Minister restated.
“Party is a vehicle that takes you to your destination and when you get there, you come down and work for your people, and that is what we are doing here today,” he said.
The Minister thanked the President and members of the National Assembly for the support so far.
On her part, FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, stated that construction of roads in the FCT, including the Area Councils, was aimed at enhancing productivity, generating employment , and helping to build local community inclusiveness with a view to unlocking the great potentials at the grassroots.
Mahmoud emphasized that the road projects was a testament of Tinubu’s administration towards improving rural infrastructures at Satellite Towns, Area Councils, which she said is not limited to Area Councils alone but the entire country.
