The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, has assured residents of the nation’s capital city that a surveillance centre will be established to monitor and curb the vandalism of public infrastructure, particularly streetlights and road installations.

The Minister disclosed this on Thursday, 12th February 2026, during an inspection tour of four major road projects across the Federal Capital Territory, where he expressed satisfaction with the progress of work by contractors.

Wike, who inspected roads handled by Levant Construction Company, Setraco, and Arab Contractors, confirmed that some projects would be completed and inaugurated by June, while others would be ready by the end of the year.

“The Wuse-Central Business District Road, being constructed by Levant, is expected to be handed over by June. The Mabushi Bus Terminal project by Setraco is also progressing well and should be completed within the third year of Mr. President’s administration,” he said.

He added that the Arterial N1 road in Wuye, being constructed by Arab Contractors, is a major project that may be completed by December.

The Minister also inspected the 17-kilometre road linking Life Camp and Dei-Dei International Market, noting that the projects have significantly opened up the FCT and boosted economic activities.

Responding to questions on project financing, Wike clarified that the funding is primarily from the FCT’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), not the Federation Account.

“The Federation Account allocation is barely enough for salaries, so we are aggressively driving IGR to fund these projects,” he explained. He dismissed claims of complexity in funding, stating that competent contractors are handling the projects efficiently.

The Minister, while commenting on the completed and commissioned bus terminals, stated that the FCT Administration is awaiting approval from the Federal Executive Council for the commencement of operations.

“We are not allowing the Transport Secretariat to manage the terminals. Private operators with competence will handle them once FEC grants approval,” he said.

Addressing concerns about vandalism, Wike disclosed that security features are being integrated into streetlight installations, and a monitoring centre would be established to track and prevent vandalism of public infrastructure.

He said: “CCECC and CGC are implementing security measures to deter vandals. We are also setting up a situation room to monitor these facilities remotely, reducing the need for excessive police patrols.”

The Minister, thereafter, commended President Bola Tinubu for his support and reiterated his commitment to delivering quality infrastructure for the FCT.
