In a bold move to transform the Federal Capital Territory FCT Minister Barrister Nyesom Wike has intensified the inspection of critical road projects, assuring residents of accelerated development under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
During an on-the-spot assessment of the Apo-Karshi and Bwari-Kubwa roads on Friday, 6th February 2026, the Minister expressed satisfaction with ongoing construction while issuing a stern warning over sanitation lapses.
He revealed that the Apo-Karshi Road, initially awarded in 2010, had suffered prolonged delays due to contractor inefficiency.
“We terminated the contract after securing presidential approval and re-awarded it to SCC,” Wike stated, praising the new contractor’s swift mobilization of equipment and work on site.
He emphasized that the road, once completed, would significantly ease traffic and boost economic activities on that axis.
At the Bwari-Kubwa axis, the Minister described the project as a “major infrastructure development” set to uplift commerce and connectivity.
He declared that some residents who have not had such road infrastructure around their surroundings would experience transformation, even as he underscored the FCT Administration’s commitment to driving President Tinubu’s inclusive growth beyond Abuja’s city center into the hinterlands.
However, the inspection took a dramatic turn when the Minister spotted heaps of refuse along the Orozo-Apo-Karshi corridor and ordered the immediate evacuation of the refuse within 48 hours; failure of which officials risk dire consequences. “This is embarrassing -these areas are no longer villages!” the minister said.
Assuring the public of immediate action, Wike vowed to enforce strict sanitation compliance, aligning with the FCT’s urbanization drive and vision.
The Minister, who also inspected the Gbazango-Kubwa reconstruction in Kubwa, reiterated that the ongoing road projects would redefine the satellite towns, foster economic revival, and improve living standards.
Abuja Digest reports that the Minister had spent most of the week inspecting ongoing projects across the nation’s capital.
