The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has urged residents of Kuje Area Council to sustain their support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
This is as he charged the newly elected council chairman, Danjuma Shekwolo, to remain humble in office and focus on governance.
The Minister gave the charge on Thursday, 5th March, 2026 while speaking during a thank-you visit to the council, where he emphasized the importance of reciprocity in politics, stating that the Tinubu administration had delivered on key Infrastructural projects in Kuje and deserved the people’s loyalty.
Wike reminded the crowd of the completed Garage Road and the ongoing Airport Road-Kuje Highway, which he said would be inaugurated by May 2026 as part of President Tinubu’s third-anniversary projects.
“Mr. President has shown he cares for Kuje. When the time comes, show that you appreciate his efforts,” Wike declared, drawing cheers from the audience.
Stating that power and money are true tests of character, the Minister admonished the new chairman, saying: “A man who has not seen power or money cannot be fully judged. When you sit in that office, with people begging for your attention, will you remember the market woman who voted for you?”
He cautioned against becoming an “away chairman” -a leader who disconnects from the people after assuming office, urging Shekwolo to remain accessible. “If you fail, we will tell the Kuje people we made a mistake,” Wike added, in humour.
Outgoing Kuje Area Council Chairman, Abdullahi Sabo, praised the FCT Minister as a “project master and unifier,” crediting the Tinubu-Wike partnership for Kuje’s rapid growth.
He called for bipartisan support for the incoming administration, pledging Kuje’s loyalty to Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
On his part, the incoming Chairman thanked the Minister for his mentorship and appealed for three additional roads to boost Kuje’s economy: Gwagwa-Kuje, Kuje-Rubochi, and Kuje-Kebi routes. “From Kebi to Kuje takes five grueling hours. We need your intervention,” Shekwolo pleaded.
