WORLD WATER DAY: FCTA Enjoins Residents To Conserve Water

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has tasked all residents of the nation’s capital to keep and protect lives through conservation of water.

The Executive Director, FCT Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RUWASSA), Dr. Muhammed Ali Dan-Hassan, gave this task, while addressing stakeholders and students during the 2024 World Water Day ceremony at the Government Science Technical College, Area 3, Garki I District, Abuja, Thursday.

Dan-Hassan said that the theme for this year World Water Day which is ‘Water for Peace’ is apt.

He emphasized that there can never be peace in any society and even to an individual that does not have complete access to clean water supply.

Speaking further on the theme, Dan-Hassan said that having full access to water supply is one of the major guarantee for peace in the life of an individual and the society at large, but the preservation and clean water supply is what brings about peace along with water.

He noted that, water is the most essential natural resources that has direct effect with human lives, as well as every living creature, which must be preserved, conserved and protected by all ramifications in order to keep and protect lives of every living creature, especially human beings in return.

According to him, “if water is not well managed and preserved, it can go dry from the source, thereby making it scarce. Therefore, for this reason, we must preserved water in order to ensure sustainability of lives since water is part of life.”

The Deputy Director, Head, Community Water Safety, FCT RUWASSA, Mrs. Chinyere Arayi, who delivered lecture during the event on Safety Water Chain, explained that water safety chain includes all processes involved in ensuring that water is not contaminated through all stages.

Arayi enjoined the stakeholders to always put into cognisance the stages of water safety chain; hinting that it ensures clean water supply and prevent diseases that comes along with water.

She mentioned stages of Water Safety Chain thus: water collection, water handle, water treatment, water storage and water consumption and usage.
