African Games 2023: Flying Eagles Lose Group Opener Against Uganda

By: Gyang Dakwo
Flying Eagles of Nigeria suffered a 2-1 defeat against Uganda in their opening fixture in the men’s football event at the African Games 2023 in Accra on Tuesday night.
The Flying Eagles were favourites to win because of their quality and supposed understanding from playing together in the past, as some of them played together at the last Under-20 World Cup.
However it was not the case as Kizma Osama gave Uganda the lead in the 35th minute.
The Flying Eagles fought back immediately with Sadiq Isiyaka nodding home from a corner kick.
Ivan Irinimabozi however netted the winning goal for the Hippos nine minutes from time.
Senegal defeated South Sudan 1-0 in the other Group B game.
Nigeria will face South Sudan in their next game at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday.
