Angola returned to the top of African basketball on Sunday, August 24, as they won the FIBA AfroBasket title for a record 12th time before a packed crowd in Luanda.

The hosts defeated Mali 70-43 in the final and captured their first championship in 12 years, while they also finished the tournament unbeaten with a 6-0 record.

Angolan guard Childe Dundao shone brightest in the title game as he scored 16 points, which was the highest in the final, and he was rewarded with the Most Valuable Player award. Dundao also made the 2025 All-Tournament Team, and he was joined by his teammate Bruno Fernando, Mali’s Mahamane Coulibaly and Aliou Diarra, and Senegal’s Brancou Badio.

Senegal had earlier beaten Cameroon 98-72 to secure third place. The organisers also handed out special awards, as Madagascar won the Fair Play award, Diarra was named Leading Rebounder, and Badio was recognised as both the Leading Three-Point Shooter and the Leading Scorer.

The final standings saw Angola crowned champions ahead of Mali, Senegal, and Cameroon, while Nigeria came in fifth place. Egypt finished sixth, Côte d’Ivoire seventh, and Cape Verde eighth. Guinea ended ninth, South Sudan tenth, and Congo DR eleventh, while Tunisia was twelfth. Rwanda, Madagascar, Uganda, and Libya all finished winless and filled the bottom four places.
