The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has opened a disciplinary investigation following incidents that occurred during the quarter-final matches of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025.

CAF said two games are directly involved in the process. They are the quarter finals between Algeria and Nigeria, and the clash between Cameroon and Morocco.

In a statement released on Monday, the continental body said the investigation relates to behaviour that may be against its rules and the spirit of fair play. The conduct in question involves some players and team officials during and after the matches.

CAF explained that it has collected official match reports and also reviewed video footage from both games. The materials, according to the statement, show actions that could attract disciplinary measures.

It said the case files have now been sent to the CAF disciplinary panel. The panel will study the incidents carefully and take decisions where necessary, CAF said, and sanctions may be applied if those involved are found guilty.

The announcement comes at a time when tensions around the tournament are already high. After their defeat to Nigeria, Algeria submitted a formal complaint to CAF. They raised concerns over refereeing decisions, especially a penalty they felt should have been awarded.

Cameroon also voiced strong dissatisfaction after their quarter-final loss to the host nation, Morocco. Their reaction added to ongoing discussions about officiating standards in decisive matches.

The football body further confirmed that it is reviewing video footage of an incident involving journalists in the mixed zone after the Algeria versus Nigeria match and is determined to fully clarify what happened.

CAF assured fans and stakeholders that it will handle the matter with fairness and transparency as the tournament continues.
