Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, the D’Tigress, has climbed to eighth place in the latest FIBA Women’s World Rankings, moving up three spots from their previous position with a score of 840.9 points.
The team, led by coach Rena Wakama, has been in outstanding form. They have also gone on to claim the title five times in a row. This consistent dominance has made them the highest-ranked African team in the world.
The D’Tigress have also achieved historic feats as the only African side to reach the quarter-finals of both the FIBA Women’s World Cup and the Olympic Games, which has strengthened their reputation on the global stage.
This latest ranking puts Nigeria ahead of basketball giants such as Spain, Brazil, and Japan. Mali follows as Africa’s second-best-ranked team, sitting in 18th place.
The D’Tigress’ remarkable progress shows that African teams can rise to the very top with determination, teamwork, and consistent success.
